Shireshead 2nds 133-9 Bolton le Sands103 all out
Andy Weir and Colin Twiname steered Shireshead 2nds to a vital first win of the season which saw 13-year-old spinner Jamie Butlin make his debut for the team.
Runs were never going to come freely on a typically leaden Bolton-le-Sands wicket but Colin Twiname played a characteristically determined innings weathering the onslaught from Adam Dyson who had to wait until his ninth over before taking a wicket.
Mark Sutcliffe and Burns fell cheaply but Paul Coulton joined Twiname to put on a crucial partnership of 65 before Twiname was bowled straight after notching up his second half century in a row, making a superb 52.
Coulton punished any loose bowling with four fours and a six in a pugnacious 38. Park ushered the innings to a close making 19 not out but wickets fell regularly at the other end and Dyson returned to claim 5 -20 in his 12 overs.
Shireshead posted 133 for 9 which would always be a competitive score if danger man Dyson could be kept quiet.
The bowling performance of Andy Weir was a constant threat to of the Bolton-le-Sands reply but Mally Taylor’s dismissal of Dyson lbw for just two was the pivotal moment.
Weir bowled Bickels, Holland and Pearce for a collective 12 runs. Metcalfe and Carruthers offered some mid-innings resistance but the impressive debutant Jamie Butlin had the former caught in the deep by Coulton.
Opener John Carter made 20 before he smashed a full toss into the safe hands of Park at mid-off and Butlin took a fine catch at point off Moulsdale to remove veteran Morgan for 12.
Last pair Dyson and Clarkson looked set on depriving Shireshead the win but Dyson edged a wide delivery from Park to a swooping Moulsdale at gully who snaffled a low catch to end the innings and ensured the full 15 points were Shireshead’s.
