Shireshead 3rds 141-8, Netherfield 35-1 (ran stopped play)

Shireshead thirds lost quick wickets after winning the toss and deciding to bat against a strong Netherfield side.

Mark Sutcliffe, Adam Coates and Jonty Collinson went cheaply, leaving 14-year olds, Matthew Sutcliffe, 24, and Oliver Wilkinson, 30, to rebuild the innings with a vital partnership of 46.

Once Netherfield prised the two youngsters out another mini-collapse ensued, before Shireshead enjoyed a second significant partnership of 55 between debutant Josh Smethurst, 31, and John Coates, 12 no, which took Shireshead to a competitive 141 for 8.

Netherfield started their reply under leaden skies with Shireshead’s quicks Smethurst and Will Gaskell opening the bowling, Gaskell bowled the dangerous N McDonnell but with drizzle turning to rain, the game was called off at 35 for 1 off just 10 overs.
