Batting first Shires lost club legend Jacques for a 9 ball duck with batsman 2 and 3 not doing a whole lot better. It was up to the middle order of Oliver Jr, Jack and Bleasdale to set about producing a defendable total of which they accomplished all getting scores in the 30s. However, it was a magnificent 61 from the ever improving Steven Foy that took the home side to such a strong total. Foy batted with energy, running hard and depositing any loose bowling to the boundary with zeal.
A talented Burneside batting line up set about chasing the total with confidence and Ethan Elwood looked destined to take the visitors to victory with a faultless 60. After he fell the innings eventually finished 187 all out as Jack, Oliver and Smethurst bowled with real purpose. It was a well deserved 15pts for the home team…even with the standard array of dropped catches.
