This was the stuff that dreams are made of. A game that had everything – high totals, improbable comebacks, centuries, wonder catches, and crazy run outs. Batting first, Shireshead began briskly despite the early loss of club legend Simon Moulson for 1. Simeone Glenn (another ‘old boy’ who has played in every decade since the 197os) was characteristically ebullient stroking his way to 27 before nicking one to the keeper. Dr. Sloan (29) and Adam Coates (37) then put on a fast scoring partnership of 63 both striking boundaries with aplomb and both falling to unfortunate dismissals, Sloan chopping on and Coates edging a potential wide. Matt Sutcliffe (18) and skipper Jonty Collinson (35) guided  the total towards a challenging 193 with cameos from Mike Park and Alex Bantleman sealing the innings.

Despite the early loss of Matt Yarker, brother Ollie (118) and Ryan Nightingale (44) put on a wonderful partnership of 126 until a run out came out of the blue and Nightingale was  left stranded thanks to an accurate throw by a cool Sloan. It was Sloan who then snatched a wonder catch in the gully to remove Will Yarker off Andy Weir (2-41). Still on 154 for 4 Kendal looked in the box seat and Ollie Yarker completed a classy 100. There then ensued a remarkable collapse as Park (3-29) removed Knowles, the experienced Fearnyough but also Yarker, miraculously caught in the slip by Aiden Weir. Bantleman (2-15) took the final wicket with a fine caught and bowled and the points were Shireshead’s, much to the joy and jubilation of a bumper Sunday crowd.
