Two thrilling games both ended with victories for Shireshead firsts on the weekend of 28th and 29th June. On Saturday they beat Westgate by 33 runs. Batting first they totalled just 130 all out, with Dave Jack and Joe Cunliffe both making 30s. Westgate looked to be cruising at 56 for 2 but with 6 for 16, Josh Smethurst had different ideas and the visitors fells short making just 97 all out. Smethurst finished with 6 wickets.
On Sunday in the Meyler Cup, the first took on Palace Shield Vivision 1a side Mawdesley who are currently 3rd in their division. Mawdesley batted first and scored 204 in their 40 overs but Tom Jacques (52) and Joe Cunliffe (27) put on 80 for the first wickets and partnership were they key as Jake Agar (36), Joe Cunliffe (20) and Steve Foy (17 not out) always kept the home side in contention, as Shireshead reached their target in the last over. They go on to meet Penrith in the next round.
