A superb performance with the bat from 14 year old Ernie Collinson together with a half century from Paul Coulton ensured the share of the points for Shireshead 3rd XI against Trimpell 2nds on Sunday. Collinson carried his bat and made 80 not out in an innings of the highest quality showing skill and guile and the determination and patience to value his wicket and punish loose bowling. Coulton took just 50 balls to make his 58 not out including 8 fours. Shireshead made 165 for 3 in their 40 overs.

In reply Trimpell were never really in the chase ending on 123 for 7 in 40 overs. Passenger and Wier looked threatening and only Cannon with 32 showed much resistance. Passenger took 3 for 30 and Wier 1 for 22. Collinson jnr then proved himself with the ball claiming 2 wickets for 13 from 6 overs of left arm swing. Shires took 8 points for the winning draw to Trimpell’s 2. It is fabulous to see so many junior players emerging as senior players but also making important contributions. Great credit goes to all of our coaches and the selfless work that Jonty Collinson and Mark Sutcliffe put in to ensure that  players’ talent is developed and opportunities are there for all.
