A beacon of light in the form of an emphatic win by 118 runs for Jonty Collinson’s 3rd XI lit up an otherwise grey weekend for Shireshead. Drizzle threatened to cancel the fixture but both teams waited patiently for a delayed start at 3.03 pm and played the match reduced to 31 overs per side.  Ben Brown 38 and Stan Collinson 69 put on a great opening partnership of 59. Dave Sloan 50 joined Stan and these two put Shireshead firmly in the ascendency.  A late flurry of shots from Thomas Atkinson (11) saw Shireshead finish on 179.  Scoreboard pressure weighed heavy on the Netherfield reply and after a couple of overs Shireshead picked up clusters of wickets. A pleasing return to Shireshead colours for Ryan Danson yielded two wickets and a tight spell from Rowan Yates applied the pressure for Ben Brown to collect two wickets of his own.  Thanks go to Tom Brown’s stunt double Rick who stood in at wicket keeper at the last minute and made the task look effortless.  A great all round performance saw Shireshead come out on top by 118 runs and take a further 15 points making it an unbeaten start to the season for the Fortonians with two wins and a winning draw.
