Following their disappointing exit from the Meyler Cup in the semi final tie at Penrith on the preceding Sunday, Shirshead 1st XI grabbed a stunning victory in the Division 1 20:20 Hackney and Leigh Cup semi-final against runaway league leaders Carnforth. Man of the Match Jack Cunnington scored 36 at number 3 and Steven Foy posted a 22 ball 33. Steve Yates smashed three sixes in a 13 ball 29 which took the visitors to a total of 148 for 8 in their 20 overs.

As so often this season Carnforth’s openers Parry (42) and Nelson (31) set up the innings perfectly but when Phil Oliver bowled Parry with the score on 65 the innings unravelled as Oliver snr. removed the dangerous Dixon for 1. Josh Smethurst (4-14) and Jack Cunnington (1-13) ensured that Carnforth remained on the rack as they fell 19 runs short on 129 for 9.
