Shireshead 167-5 and Westgate 137-7

Shireshead firsts faced Westgate at Clifton Park in the final game of the group 20/20 cup games with a place in the semi-finals days at stake.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat but Westgate struck early as Andy Nisbet bowled Phil Oliver in the second over.

Tom Jacques, who batted through the innings, and Simon Gould steadied the ship as they put together a 32-run partnership before Gould, 11, was run out.

The usually reliable Joe Cunliffe, 2, came and went bringing Dave Jack to the crease, and he hit a quick 17 before being bowled by Dylan Conroy.

Steve Yates continued the quick scoring with an innings of 22 and then came Andrew Murphy hitting 26 off just nine balls, to leave Shireshead finishing on a competitive 167-5 with Jacques finishing on 62 not out.

Facing a run rate of more than eight an over Westgate lost a wicket with first ball, Sam Frith caught by Phil Oliver off the bowling of Dave Jack. Three balls later Khan Puffett was caught behind to give Jack a double wicket maiden.

Westgate never kept up with the required run rate but Shireshead knew they had batsmen capable of changing this but wickets fell at regular intervals.

Andreas Arestidou, 37, Craig Buchanan, 51, and Dylan Conroy, 24, all batted well for Westgate but they finished 30 runs short. The impressive Dave Jack finished 4-24 off his four overs.
