Shireshead 172-5, Heysham 162-3

Shireshead booked a ‘winners takes all’ final match against Westgate in the battle for a spot in the 20/20 semi-final with a hard fought victory over Heysham.

Shireshead won the toss and elected to bat and after a cautious start, the innings gained momentum with useful contributions from Tom Jacques 39, Joe Cunliffe 39, Dave Jack, 28, and a late flurry from Phil Oliver with 16 off just four balls to give Shireshead a useful total of 172.

Heysham lost two early wickets, but this only spurred the Heysham batsmen to try and push the score along which Sam Calverley did smashing 38 off 21 balls which included five fours and two sixes. He was eventually caught by Jack Dodd off the bowling of Joe Cunliffe.

This brought Sam McClements, 40 no, and Graeme Cassidy, 53 no, to the crease and they really made a game of it.

Needing 14 off the last over Heysham’s pair faced Shireshead’s Irfan Quyaam who bowled a fantastic six balls conceding just three runs and ensured victory for Shireshead in a game that could have gone either way in the end.

Joe Cunliffe was the only Shireshead bowler to take wickets finishing with 3-28.
