Shireshead U16B 85-7 Westgate 84-8
Eddie Haigh’s unbeaten 30 put his Shireshead side on their way to a hard-earned victory in a tightly fought battle against Westgate.
The visitors Westgate batted first and lost wickets regularly as seven Shireshead bowlers were used. Ernie Collinson, Jamie Butlin and Eddie Dean all claimed two wickets and Dan Metcalfe and Will Gaskell one apiece.
At one point Westgate were 56-8 but a fightback by Bradshaw, 14 and Hayward, 13, posted a decent total of 84 – although ‘extras’ top-scored with 18.
Facing a run chase of four an over Shireshead lost opener Ollie Wilkinson cheaply for three, clean bowled by Briggs.
George Carney and Eddie Haigh then steadied the innings with a series of boundaries before Carney went lbw for a bright 14.
Will Gaskell, James Sutcliffe, Eoin McShannon all fell cheaply as Westgate threatened to bowl the home side out.
Shireshead, with some sharp running between Butlin and Collinson, kept up with the rate and as the final over approached Elliot Dean and Thomas McCartney steered their team home with a ball to spare.
