Shireshead 1st XI breezed past Burneside firsts with a convincing 5 wicket victory, adding a further 12 points to their total points tally and pushing them into the top three in the table. Opting to field first and take advantage of the moisture in the pitch Shireshead soon made inroads as Joe Cunliffe had Hadley caught by Wilkinson for 3 and Joe Oliver clean bowled Huck for 8. Strike bowler Dave Jack had decided to pass the baton to his young proteges in this fixture and they didn’t disappoint as Oliver took 2 for 25 and Cunliffe 2 for 16. Spinner Jacques claimed 2 for 16 and the leg spin of Jack Dodd took 2 for 11.

In reply it was contributions by the Bothamesque Oliver (26 not out) and Cunliffe (22) that took the game away from the visitors. Dave Jack weighed in with 22 not out to see his side home in a partnership of 49 with Oliver as they reached their target in the 31st over.
