Shireshead U13s v Lancaster U13s – League Cup
May 4 2016
The first game of the 2017 season saw Shireshead pitched against the old foe Lancaster in the first round of the league cup.
Ernie Collinson stepped up to the experienced side, coached again by Mark Sutcliffe.
Lancaster batted first and on a warm evening started off at brisk pace plundering 11 from the first over and moving at an average of six an over throughout the night.
Will Gaskell and Oliver Wilkinson lead the Shirehead attack, with Gaskell finishing his four overs claiming 1-18 and Wilkinson 1-13. Collinson bowled the dangerous Marshall and Jamie Butlin and K Dean each pitched in a wicket apiece as Lancaster finished their 20 overs on an impressive 121.
Shireshead’s batmen were always behind the run rate, but James Sutcliffe did take the fight to the opposition with a swashbuckling 33 before he retired. Wilkinson, 11, was one of Jacob Orr’s victims.
Despite a late flourish from Collinson and Thomas McCartney, both 10 not out, Shireshead lost their opening cup match finishing on 93 after 20 overs.
