Trimpell U13s v Shireshead U13s
June 12 2017
As the weather reverted back to winter, Shireshead U13s travelled to the Trimpell for the second league game of the season boosted by a great result at Westgate.
Trimpell had a very young but eager side, many of whom were playing their very first ever ‘hard ball’ game.
But the match belonged to Thomas McCartney who, following an impressive spell at Westgate, claimed his first ever hat-trick for the club – all clean bowled.
Shireshead batted first and opener Oliver Wilkinson showed the consistency that has seen him drafted into the second team, by clocking up a measured 25 without giving any chances away.
James Sutcliffe also retired on 25 with a powerful innings that took the game away from the inexperienced opponents.
Will Gaskell, 13, and Eddie Haigh, 23, saw their side through to 123. Jamie Butlin’s two from the final ball will also last long in the memory.
Shireshead’s bowlers then enjoyed the excellent wicket, prepared by the ever green Peter McDermid, and kept their young opponents to 51 runs with McCartney finishing on four wickets, and Kieran Dean, three.
