Westgate U11s 274 Shireshead U11s 269 (hardball)

Westgate won the toss and chose to bat on a sunny evening in Forton.

The decision looked to have backfired immediately when Stanley Picton took a wicket with the first ball of the match.  Thereafter Westgate were restricted by some fine bowling and fielding from a young Shireshead team until the final Westgate pair scored 38 and took the target to 274.

Shireshead started at a pace with Ollie Toulmin and Stanley Picton scoring 32.

Some economical bowling from Westgate left Shireshead needing eight off the final two balls.  A certain six off the penultimate ball was saved by the Westgate fielder in cow corner.  This left Shireshead just five runs short at the end of a closely fought contest.
