Shireshead 207-7  Heysham 181 all out

Shireshead faced Heysham for the third time in three matches and claimed an impressive win in the Hackney and Leigh Cup.

Put in, Shireshead made a competitive 207 from their 35 overs. Tom Jacques, 50, and Joe Cuncliffe, 51, both retired undefeated. Neither looked in any danger as they peppered Heysham’s boundary.

Joe Oliver, 19, and David Jack, 25, saw Shireshead to 207 which Heysham must have felt was not beyond their batsmen.

Plackett, who had tormented the visitors in previous games, fell relatively cheaply at 25 to Phil Oliver caught by Paul Yates and Andy Hill also fell for 12, to Qayuum. Calverley then accelerated Heysham’s reply with a sharp 61 before Qayuum bowled him.

Cassidy and McClements fought hard for the home side but Shireshead’s bowlers especially Cunliffe, 3-29 and Phil Oliver 3-15 ensured the total was always out of reach.
